C. David de Santana PhD
Bio
I have spent nearly two decades devoted to researching the diversity and evolution of fishes using both traditional and cutting-edge approaches in taxonomy, comparative anatomy, phylogeny, phylogeography, phylogenomics, and metagenomics.
During this time, I have led multiple scientific expeditions and discovered more than 80 new species of fishes. Additionally, I have trained postdocs, co-supervised Ph.D. students, and worked with Amerindians. As a junior research leader at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, I have established a research group to study the taxonomy, comparative anatomy, and evolution of electric fishes. Furthermore, I have published several peer-reviewed articles and have been featured in popular media outlets around the world.
